Jeff Graceffo - Manchester United Desperately Searching For a Playmaker

With the Barclays Premier League set to begin on Saturday, Manchester United is actively trying to acquire either Mesut Ozil or Luka Modric from Real Madrid. The off-season was a disaster for United as they failed to acquire any of their major targets and the rumors have been swirling that Wayne Rooney would leave for Chelsea.

With the management shift from Sir Alex Ferguson to David Moyes it is important that United acquire a top central midfielder that can lead them to another championship.  Ferguson's long term success raised the bar in Manchester and anything less than a top three finish will be considered a major failure.

Although they won the league last year they did not accomplish this by defeating the top teams. They won by defeating the teams in the bottom half of the table. While Chelsea, Tottenham, and Arsenal suffered numerous draws, United essentially swept these teams taking all three points with them.  However, while the rest of the league improved United appears stagnant.

For United's sake, I hope they acquire a world class player that will attract other top players to Manchester.
