The defending champions dazzled in their 4-0 thrashing of Ireland in Gdansk.
I debated, and decided that this game was not worth the time it takes to write a review. It was pure domination. What is there to say that cannot be summarized? Here are a few thoughts
- The Irish fans are some of the greatest in the world. Their team was thoroughly destroyed and they stood until the final whistle singing football songs. The atmosphere seemed fantastic.
- The Irish are simply unfortunate to draw the Spanish. No other team in the tournament can make a game seem so one-sided.
- The Irish never had a chance. The Spanish are on an entirely different level.
- Fernando Torres is a game changer. Give him an opportunity.
- Spain's defenders attack at will. It's great to watch
- Spain's high defensive pressure forced the Irish to turn the ball over numerous times
- Ireland's reliance on the long-ball failed miserably
- The game could have been 10-0
